This beautiful portrait of a young peasant girl was painted by artist Dokuchaeva of Fedoskino.
Dokucheva graduated from Fedoskino Art School in 1963. The artist is used to work in Cooperative “Russian Collection”(Dolgoprudniy),”Sakva” and other dealers of Russian Lacquer Miniature.
The portraits like this one were very popular at the beginning of the ninetieth century. At that time Lukutin factory produced a large quantity of lacquered boxes depicting young beautiful ladies.
A young lady could be Ukrainian or Russian because of dress—it is classical, but hair-dress of a girl is typical for the Ukraine or southern regions of Russia. This piece is a high quality art form, from the top to the bottom! The artist has combined here brilliant skill with oil paints in shading, coloring and texturing!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left side of the composition, and the box rests on the flat bottom. The work is signed by Dokuchaeva at the bottom of composition.
