Description:

This work is a creation of Piotr Sosin from the village of Mstera. It continues the artist's famous series of works dedicated to the Russian resorts, and features the Caucasian health resort "Essentuki". Esentuki is the oldest balneotherapeutic and mud health resort in Russia. It was founded in 1839. Here people cure a wide range of diseases including the diseases of nervous system, skin, gynecology and many others. The mineral water labeled with "Essentuki" is very popular in Russia, and can be bought in every shop.
Sosin depicts some sights of the resort, creating an impression of a happy, fairy-tale place. Beautiful buildings built before the October Revolution adjoin modern buildings and the railroad. They symbolize bygone fame of the resort and its glorious future. The landscape is in harmony with the festive architectural scene.
The composition is painted in the traditional Mstera School palette. Predominance is given to orange, blue, red and green tones.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The edges of the lid are decorated with silver beads and a beautiful floral pattern painted in gold and aluminum. More gold and aluminum designs can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera, and the title "Caucasian Health Resort".
