This charming piece was created by artist Yuriy Zhigalov.
Zhigalov studied under E.N Zonina and N.D Dmitriev. He is a specialist in floral compositions using the tempera art technique and gold paints in his art work. Zhigalov's miniatures differ from others because of his thin gold scroll work and by the fine technique of execution. The artist believes that his compassionate style is easy to remember due to its detailed painting, themes, colors, paints, and overall quality of his compositions.
The work is called "Roses". It is painted in subdued green, red and yellow tones and richly detailed with gold paints. The lid is decorated with gold floral patterns. Intricate gold ornamentation also wraps around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box.
The lid is not hinged, and the box rests on three rounded legs. Signed with the name of the artist, the village of Mstera and the title on the bottom.
