This nice round box was created by the immensely talented Marina Denisenko of Palekh.It is painted on the theme of Russian peasant life and shows a peasant woman feeding hens. The colors explode in bold tones throughout the scene. Greens, browns and reds dominate the palette.Metallic gold and aluminum paint highlights give the box a shimmering glow.
The scene is framed with a simple gold pattern. The box's sides are adorned with a beautiful pattern composed of sunflowers drawn in tempera paint and detailed in gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the box.The lid isn't hinged,and the box rests on the flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
