This box created by Boris Velichko shows the traditional theme of a Russian winter troika.
This talented Artist has past us away in Spring 2008.
On this box a loving couple enjoy a full speed drive sitting in the sledge pulling by three mighty horses. The scene is richly detailed with brilliant gold paint while tiny silver dots are drawn here to imitate swirling snowflakes.
The edges of the lid are adorned with a simple pattern composed of gold beads. The box's sides are decorated with more complex gold floral ornamentation accented with aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2008 and the village of Palekh.
