Description:

This beautiful winter landscape is painted by the talented Fedoskino artist Levitskaya T.V. The landscape reminds the work of the outstanding Fedoskino artist S.I. Kozlov. This work is pictured in the popular book by Suprin L.Ya., 1987, LACQUER MINIATURE OF FEDOSKINO, LEGROMBITIZDAT, Moscow, page 165. But it isn't a copy of the famous Kozlov's work. Here the artist offers a viewer her own interpretation of this scene, applying her own painting techniques and finding new artistic decisions.
Looking at this composition, a viewer, undoubtedly, will call it "The landscape with a gold river". It looks unusual and attractive owing to the peculiar color contrast. White and gray tones of the melting snow beautifully match with bright gold tones of the river and the sky. It seems that the golden rays of the sunset have fallen onto the river, making it's smooth surface shine like the sun. The artist's managed to capture a rare moment of nature and convey a viewer her admiration and wonder aroused by this scene.
The composition is mostly painted in white, gray and gold tones. Blue, brown and red tones are used in the depiction of the sky and the trees. Metallic gold powder has been combined with blue and white oil paints to form transitions and blending in the sky. Bright gold tones of the sunset smoothly transit into metallic blues of the sky. White paint is used to depict clouds in the sky, and brown tones are used for the depiction of some birds scattered throughout the sky.
To create the stream's water the artist repeats the method he's used while painting the sky. The only difference here is that gold metallic powder of the river is blended beautifully with white colors of snowdrifts reflected in the river, whereas brown and reddish tones help to create waves. The lack of detail in the snow enhances the beauty in the stream. When this piece is turned in the palm of the hand the color variances and the detail are thoroughly enjoyable.
The artist also has put much energy and talent into the depiction of the trees. Multicolored brunches and trunks look elegantly and touchingly.
The box is made out of high quality paper mache and sits flat. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition for ease of opening. A simple gold ornament accentuated with aluminum decorates the edges of the lid. The sides of the box are decorated with a more intricate and elegant pattern, also with additional touches of aluminum. The box is signed with the name of the artist, village and year (2002). Lovely!
