Description:

This work was created by Fedoskino artist P.A. Borisov, who specializes in depicting architectural landscapes. A Russian church in winter is shown in this very attractive box. The composition is very small, as is the box, and the amount of detail that the artist depicts here is incredible. The trees are painted with intricacy that shows the soft white snow gathered on the ends of the branches. Two solitary persons are dwarfed by the grandeur of the church. The palette is moderate, here the artist uses only grey and white tones that help to reproduce the atmosphere of a dark winter evening.
The sides of the box are covered with grey lacquer with light grey spots on it. This blending of dark and light grey tones resemble the texture of grey marble. Grey tones of the composition go well with the stone design of the same color on the sides of the box. The sides also decorated with an elegant gold ornament. The base of the box is covered with black lacquer, and red lacquer covers its interior. The box is constructed out of paper-mache. It has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (2002).
