Description:

This rural landscape was painted by Fedoskino artist Ivanchuk. The scene is idyllic and peaceful; it shows cows pasturing on a meadow covered with dry, yellow grass. It's a sunny autumn day. The foliage of trees is multicolored. Some of them are green, the others are red and yellow. Hay has already cocked, and haystacks can be seen here and there.
The scene is painted against the black background which tone beautifully with the golden landscape. The colors are rich and warm, suggesting the middle of the autumn, just before the leaves start to fall on the cold ground. There is a good sense of depth and dimensionality in this work, especially in the trees located in the foreground. The light falls dramatically on their branches and it seems that the wind sways their tops. The artist creates the illusion of individual leaves by applying spots of paint, in the trees in the foreground, whereas the ones in the distance are painted indefinably, according to the rules of perspective. The cows are also naturally painted. Aluminum powder is used to enhance the golden tones of the meadow and the haystacks.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The sides are decorated with gold patterns. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on four rounded legs. The inscription "Fedoskino" written in gold can be found on the interior of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (2003).
