Description:

This wonderful miniature portrait of Natalya Goncharova, wife of the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, is perfectly painted by Fedoskino artist Svetlana Chirkova. Goncharova was the reason behind the fatal duel of Pushkin with a rival, and that is one of the reasons that this lady holds a prominent place in history. Being one of the most beautiful women of her time, she won hearts of her contemporaries. Painters of past centuries as well as modern painters created a great number of her portraits, admiring this beautiful woman and expressing sympathy with her tragic destiny.
The portrait is painted on an oval encircled with a gold line. Natalya Goncharova is depicted against the tender blue background that accentuates her fragile beauty. Delicate brushwork details her face. Her features are drawn clearly, with soft skin and a faint blush on her cheeks. Her hair is elegantly styled. Her clothes are also very well painted. The blue ribbon that decorates her collar matches beautifully with the blue background.
The box is carved into a rectangle with ruffled sides to the right and left, and a rounded side towards the compositional bottom. The whole surface of the box's lid is decorated with gold tartan patterns. The edges of the lid are adorned with two parallel gold lines. The sides of the box are also adorned with gold tartan patterns framed with two parallel gold lines.
The box is made out of high quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The interior also includes the Fedoskino "troika" insignia stamped in orange paint on the roof of the lid. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the name of the artist, village and year (1998).
