Description:

Money was not growing on trees. Nor was it falling from the sky. The rivers did not spill fresh milk upon the shoreline and the wells aren't filled with wine. Fields? No diamond harvest here. If you want collectable currency, you have to earn it. Building and construction go hand in hand with farming and trade. And this is paradise. Why? Because of the melodies of summer. Love is in the air and it is ready to bloom. Here, that blossom is a pleasure to behold. This romantic piece of Russian artistry was composed by Tatyana Frolova from the village of Fedoskino. It is crafted as the ideal gift for that special someone. A symbol of sentiment within simplicity it is. The palette is relaxing and smiles are induced. This is a great example of Russian lacquer miniature artistry. Oil-based paint is the primary medium used to compose this lovely composition. He plays while she listens--simple? Hardly. Her mind is spinning like a whirlwind as he is hypnotized with apprehension, the instrument seems to be playing by itself. When their eyes meet again, everything will be just fine. The colors within the scene really bring out the romance of the moment depicted. The peach in the background sky looks wonderful against the variety of greens of this lush grassland. Dozens of flowers spring up as the decoration for the day. And the characters are charming, executed with a professional touch. On the front and rear sides of the box, the artist has added a tiny bouquet of wild flowers. The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer is used to complete the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition to be used for ease of opening. The outermost edge of the composition is patterned with a shimmering pattern of aluminum beads, as is the lower edge of the base. Splotches of gold, formed through the dye-resist method of application, add brilliance to the edge of the lid and the base of the work. This gold marbling is formed by dipping the piece into a mixture of colored oil, paint thinner and water. The Fedoskino factory insignia can be found within the lid's interior painted gold. Upon completion of the piece the artist signs their name, the title, the village name of Fedoskino and the year of 1999 of which the piece was finished along the bottom of the composition. Materials: Egg-tempera paint, paper-mache, gold paint, aluminum paint and lacquer.
