This beautiful architectural landscape has been painted by Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino. It is an interpretation of the original work painted by the famous Fedoskino artist S. Kozlov.
The box features a typical landscape for Russian countryside filled with cozy wooden houses, women carrying yokes and walking slowly to the ice-hole on the frozen river, and the high bell tower surrounded with kokoshnik-shaped domes of the cathedrals.
The palette is based on a realistic blend of paints that gives an accurate portrayal of the landscape, freshly covered in snow, and the architecture. The shadows are incorporated well, giving the eye a realistic point of reference in relation to the sun's position in the sky. The linear configuration of the clouds in the sky gives the scene life and movement. It animates the winter scene, which is otherwise frozen by winter's effect on the trees. A large inlay of mother-of-pearl is set within the structure of the belfry. Gold metal paint is used to highlight the sky, the architecture and animate the scene.
The box is constructed from quality pressed paper. Red lacquer is used to paint both the exterior and the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left and the box rests on a flat bottom. The artist wrote his name, the year of 2005 and the village name of Fedoskino along the bottom of the composition.
