Description:

This beautiful architectural landscape was painted by Golubeva T. from the village of Fedoskino. Here we can see the famous Novodevichy Convent [New Maidens'] located in the center of Moscow. Clearly visible from Sparrow Hills [Vorob'evy Gory] the Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524, though most of its present appearance dates from the 17th century. It was here that Boris Godunov was elected tsar, and Peter the Great's power-hungry sister Sophia was imprisoned here as well. The six-tiered ornately-decorated belfry rises 236 feet. Today Bulgakov is buried in the cemetery attached to the monastery. In the background there is the world-renowned University named after Lomonosov.
The palette that the artist has used reflects the season depicted here. Predominance is given to green, blue, white tones. Gold paint is used to create the brilliance of the domes and the reflection of sunrays in the windows. There is much depth and perspective in this work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is covered with original blue dust resist patterns that resemble the coloring of gray marble. The interior of the box is traditionally red. The edges of the box and the bottom side of the box are decorated with silver scan patterns (they are hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box). The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a small platform. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2005, and the title ("Novodevichy Convent').
