Description:

This peaceful landscape is a creation of the talented Fedoskino artist Tatyana Tipyakova. It is called "Evening on the banks of Volga River", and shows the gorgeous panorama of the Volga that is the longest river in the world. This river, known in Russian folklore as Mother Volga, has played an incalculable part in the life of the Russian people.
In this work the artist has managed to express her admiration for a quiet splendor of Russian nature. The great Volga River that shines reflecting the sunset glow, its banks covered with succulent meadows, some small white-stoned churches, the boundless sky, and cozy houses of fishermen are perceptively painted with love and care. A scene like this, real or on an artist's canvas, always has a calming effect on the soul.
The colors taken from the palette are very natural and realistic, which enhances the quality of the landscape in the way it was rendered. Gold paint highlights foliage of the tree depicted in the right upper corner, outlines the crosses of the churches, and creates the light source in the windows.
The box has the unusually shaped lid which front edge extends on the box's sides. The scene is framed with a gold line, whiles the box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to complete the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at the top and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, titled and dated (2006) by the master.
