This charming small box is a creation of Pichugina from the village of Fedoskino. It features a little girl standing under the apple tree and eating an apple.
The scene is painted in bright oils against the crimson background which is extended on the box's sides. Mother-of-pearl shines through the girl's sarafan, and through the apple she eats. Gold metal leaf is set into each apple painted here. On the box's sides Pichugina continues to paint apples.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The box's exterior bottom is covered with black lacquer. Its interior is traditionally red. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box sits flat. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, and the year of 2006.
