Description:

This box has been painted by Ivanov from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the picturesque view of St. Basil's Cathedral. This gem of ancient Russian architecture was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1561 to commemorate to the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan Khanate.
The palette is bright and radiant. Gold paint is used to highlight the cathedral and the sky. Gold metal leaf shines through the architecture, and through the square's pavement (just before the cathedral).
Two gold parallel lines frame the scene, and decorate the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
