This interesting work continues Dmitry Tipyakov's “animal theme”, and shows a bear sleeping on a sunny forest glade. A bear is the most popular animal in Russia, and a character of many folk Russian fairy-tales. A bear is always associated with Russia, and may be for this reason the artist has chosen the title “Rus” (or “Russia”) for this work.
Tipyakov's impeccable painting technique shines in this work. Operating only with the grey tone, and its variations the artist has achieved a striking result. The box looks very stylish.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, and the data of the box's completion: 3.02.2008.
