This splendid sample of Fedoskino realism was painted by Nina Savelieva. In 1956 Savelieva graduated from the Fedoskino Art School. Her teachers were D.N. Dedunik, A.A. Parfenov, B.N. Koromyslov. For her achievements in the field of lacquered miniature art she was awarded to a medal "Veteran of Labour". Her favorite themes to depict are genre scenes and portraits. Savelieva's works are exhibited in the Museum of Fedoskino Art School.
The box shows two girls who are going to congratulate their mother with her birthday. They are knocking at the door of their house holding bunches of wild flowers in their hands. The scene is framed with a thin gold line while the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2008.
