Description:

This "Mucha Style" composition has been painted by Tatyana Skripunova.
"Mucha style" was invented by Alphonse Mucha (1860 -1939), a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. This style is characterized by twisting and swirling flower motifs. Mucha's works frequently featured beautiful healthy young women in flowing vaguely Neoclassical looking robes, often surrounded by lush flowers.
The box shows a young woman gathering grapes. The scene is painted in bright orange, red, pink and brown tones that are beautifully combined with pale greens and blues. The edges of the lid are decorated with silver scan patterns (made of tiny beads hand punched from silver metal sheets, and then glued to the box manually).
The box is made out of high quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, and the year of 2008.
