Description:

Oleg Golovcheonkov, from the village of Fedoskino, is the talented artist responsible for this delightful representation of the heartwarming adventure entitled, "The Seven Ravens." This tale comes from the famous compilation of stories known as Grimm's Fairytales, written by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm. It tells the story of a mother and father that make a vicious mistake in the wish of a daughter to go along with their seven sons. When tragedy befalls the sons, the young daughter is blamed and a curse is imposed that appears permanent. As the beautiful girl grows up, she hears stories about her childhood. This sends her on a magical journey to find and reunite with her seven brothers that are now The Seven Ravens.
This scene is an adorable look into the climax of the tale. The young girl has finally made it to the glass mountain where her brothers live, as ravens, with the dwarf to the left. Soon, the spell will be broken and the ravens will turn back into there human form. This is a most joyous occasion, furthered by the masterful facial expressions composed by the artist. Shimmering gold leaf adds a radiant glow to the composition. The leaves falling down from the tree, chair of the dwarf and the crowns atop the raven's heads are all comprised of the gold leaf. The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
