This attractive small box was created by talented Fedoskino painter Julia Goryunova. It shows a loving couple dressed in festive clothes. A young boy is dressed in the blue caftan, and a girl is dressed in the beautiful white dress, her head is covered with the garland of wild flowers.
The composition is painted in soft tones. Mother-of-pearl is used to decorate the drawing, and to create the depth of the scene. Applying layer of paint upon another layer of paint, the artist gives the scene a three-dimensional feel. Brilliant gold paint is used to paint some of the leaves on the tree and the butterflies.
The composition is framed with the ribbon cut out of the gold metal leaf. Another ribbon cut out of the gold metal leaf wraps around the sides of the box. The exterior of the box is covered with cream oils, while the interior is traditionally red.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition. The box sits flat. It is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2001 and the village of Fedoskino on the lid's interior.
