Description:

This portrait of Alexandra Feodorovna Romanova is a creation of Maslova from the village of Fedoskino. The old photo of Alexandra Romanova inspired the artist to create this work. The original photo you can find on this site:
http://sch714-romanov.narod.ru/index18_1.html
Alexandra Feodorovna Romanova was Empress of Russia as spouse of Nicholas II, the last Emperor of the Russian Empire. Born a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, she was given the name Alexandra Feodorovna upon being received into the Russian Orthodox Church, which canonised her as Saint Alexandra the Passion Bearer in 2000.
The portrait is painted in the realistic style against the light blue background. The splendor of the tsaritsa's costume is achieved with the help of shining silver paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid are decorated with a thin blue line; another thin blue line can be found wrapping around the box's sides. A hinge is fastened to the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed at the bottom of the portrait with the artist's name, and the year of 2009, and the village of Fedoskino.
