This beautiful box has been painted by Taisia Danchenko from the village of Fedoskino. Here she has drawn a recognizable moment from Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland". Alice, the Hatter, the Dormouse and the Hare are having a tea party.
The scene is painted in bright oils over silver metal powder that accentuates colors and creates a light source from within. The edges of the lid are adorned rolling gold ornaments. The box's exterior is covered with brown oil paint mixed with gold powder. On the box's exterior bottom Danchenko has drawn the additional miniature that shows playing cards and the watch. A lustrous gold metal leaf is inlaid into the watch. The watch's chain is painted in gold. The box's interior is covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
