This beautiful Fedoskino box is an original work of Marina Khasanova. It depicts the Snowmaiden caressing the little hare in the winter forest. This sentimental scene is dramatically painted that proves the artist's professionalism. Khasanova's individual style is reflected in each minute detail throughout the composition including fragile snowflakes falling down on the Snowmaiden's costume and bullfinches' (name of the birds painted here) breasts shining with gold. On the box's exterior bottom Khasanova has painted in tempera paints one more composition that depicts a flower covered with the first snow.
Working on this box the artist has used the delicate palette filled with cold blues. This palette is enriched and enlivened by gold metal leaf inlay that can be found in the Snowmaiden' hair, patterns on her costume and on the birds' breasts. The box's exterior is covered with light grey lacquer. For additional decoration this light grey background is studded with brilliant gold spots. The box's interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2009.
