This portrait of a dreamy poet has been painted by Yugeniy Dokuchaev. In his works he tries to paint correctly and realistically individual features of his characters, and also to express their psychology and mood.
Working on this box Dokuchaev has done an especially good job on the poet's face, creating a lifelike image with eyes that look attentively at the viewer. The minute details found in his costume are painted so intricately that it is a wonder a human hand can make such small strokes with a brush.
The portrait is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
