Valentina Maslova from the village of Fedoskino is a talented artist who painted this beautiful brooch. On the oval piece of mother-of-pearl the artist has painted her interpretation of the world famous portrait of Catherine II the Great. The portrait is based on Aleksey Antropov's oil on canvas, painted in 1766. Antropov's Masterpiece is kept in the Novgorod Art and History Museum, town of Novgorod, Russia.
The oval pearl plate on which the portrait is painted is set into the frame made out of German silver. The portrait is framed with swirling metal patterns. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2009.
