Description:

This beautiful Fedoskino box is a creation of talented Fedoskino artist Marina Khasanova. It features the Snowmaiden or Snegurochka walking through the winter forest and feeding birds (the birds depicted here are the red-breasted bullfinches). Every winter she and her grandfather Ded Moroz (Russians call Santa "Ded Moroz") come from the faraway North Pole to wish Happy New Year to little children and their parents.
The scene is painted in light blue and white oils suitable for reproduction of the snow covered winter forest. Aluminum powder highlights the Snowmaiden's skirt and hat; silver paint is used to draw ornaments on her jacket and hat. Gold metal leaf shines through the thin tree leaves painted from the left of the Snowmaiden.
The scene is framed with a golden line. The sides of the box are decorated with a mixture of a blue and a white paints, imitating the coloring of blue marble. The box's interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2009, and the village of Fedoskino.
