Description:

The famous and very talented Fedoskino artist, Alimpiada Dokuchaeva, is the artist who painted this impressive biblical scene. Getting inspiration from Titian's art heritage, the artist has painted this work. The depicted scene was originally created by Titian in the 1560s. Called “Christ Bearing the Cross”, this masterpiece is currently exhibited in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio (1488/1490-1576) better known as Titian was an Italian painter, the most important member of the 16th-century Venetian school. He was born in Pieve di Cadore, near Belluno (in Veneto), in the Republic of Venice. During his lifetime he was often called da Cadore, taken from the place of his birth.
Recognized by his contemporaries as "The Sun Amidst Small Stars" (recalling the famous final line of Dante's Paradiso), Titian was one of the most versatile of Italian painters, equally adept with portraits, landscape backgrounds, and mythological and religious subjects. His painting methods, particularly in the application and use of color, would exercise a profound influence not only on painters of the Italian Renaissance, but on future generations of Western art.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The scene is framed with a gold line while the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
