Description:

Alexander Mikheev of Fedoskino is one of the most talented artists in the village. His work runs the fine line of surrealism and classic realism. His extensive knowledge of the art of painting and how to use his materials puts him above many of his peers. The international community has taken notice by placing them in private collections throughout Europe and America.
The work is called "Outskirts", and shows the beautiful summer landscape. It features dilapidated wooden architecture typical for Russian remote province, the street overgrown with wild grass and the ancient white stone cathedrals that can be met almost in any Russian village.
A warm, summer breeze drifts throughout the village on this lovely Saturday morning. The details are an advanced form of the artist's ability. The sun hasn't fully awakened the day just yet. The shadows across the grass paint this picture perfectly. The scene is painted in different shades of green over a large piece of silver metal leaf highlighted with violet tones that creates the brilliance of the morning sky.
The scene is framed with a silver line. The edges of the lid are decorated with original ornamentation composed of flowers and beads painted in lustrous silver paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while dark red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed, dated (2005) and titled by the artist at the bottom of the composition in white oils.
