This gorgeous piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Konstantin Danshin of Fedoskino. A beautiful combination of quality craftsmanship and exceptional artistry.
The box features the white Labrador and its three charming puppies. In the background there is the medieval castle where lives the owner of the dogs. There is no doubt that he is an admirer of hunt.
The scene is painted in subdued oil paints. Gold metal powder highlights the castle; radiance of the sky is achieved with the help of aluminum powder. The scene is framed with two parallel aluminum lines from the left and from the right of the composition. Another two parallel aluminum lines decorate the edges of the lid and wrap around the box's sides. From the left and from the right of the composition there is also an original ornamentation created by means of a special method called the "dye resist" method. It produces a marbled effect that is achieved by using aluminum powder as an underlayer, and then covering it with red oils, creating the shinning red background for white spots scattered on it.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition. The box rests upon four legs. The work is signed and dated (2005) by the artist in gray oils at the bottom of the composition.
