Description:

This masterful work was created by the talented Sergey Knyazev from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the monastery located on the riverbanks.
The composition is painted in blue and lilac tones over a large piece of mother-of-pearl. Mother-of-pearl shines through the skies and the river. Aluminum powder highlights every element of the composition. Gold metal leaf creates the brilliance of golden foliage and haystacks. Gold metal dust seems to have been sprinkled in certain parts of the composition to add an almost unnoticeable sparkle to the piece.
The artist makes supreme usage of the overlay method of application. This is done by painting one particular portion of the piece, thinly coating it with clear lacquer and then continuing on with the compositional process. By doing this, the artist creates three dimensional depth, perspective and beautiful texture. The scene is dream-like. A fantasy of architecture!
The composition is framed with an originally painted gold pattern. The sides of the box are adorned by a superb ornamentation formed of multitude of maple branches covered with golden foliage.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer, the box's exterior is covered with black lacquer mixed with metal gold and metal blue spangles. The lid is hinged from the top, and the box rests on four legs.
Knyazev adds an inscription to the interior of the lid. Here, we see the title of the work ("Autumn Dawn") , the artist's name, the village name of Fedoskino, and the date of completion being 200.
