Description:

Irina Turbeneva of Fedoskino. An artist with a flare for entrancing imagery. Fedoskino artistry is usually easy to distinguish from the other villages, yet the compositional work of Turbeneva is unique within the scope of all Fedoskino miniatures. There is a certain feeling of fantasy exuded by her palette and the exquisite characters created from it. Tantalizing aesthetic in every way.
Based on the Pushkin's tale of Golden Cockerel the box features the feast arranged to celebrate the wedding of Tsar Dadon and the beautiful Shemakha Queen. Painting encompasses the entire box, except for the bottom.
Various shades of pink, yellow, sea green, and a wide variety of smooth blues combine to form the clothing of the characters and the surrealistic surroundings. Gold metal leaf shines through the dome of the cathedral painted on the box's lid, and through the oval object the Shemakha Queen holds in her hand. Gold paint is used to detail some elements of the composition. There is great personality in the faces of the characters, their highly animated positioning a true highlight of the work.
The exterior bottom of the box is covered with black lacquer, while the interior of the box is traditionally red. The lid is hinged, and the box sits flat.
The box is made out of paper-mache. It is signed with the artist's name.
