This attractive box is a creation of O. Kachalkina from the village of Fedoskino. It is called "Day and Night" . The girl painted in the left part of the composition symbolizes the Day, whereas the girl painted from the right symbolizes the Night. Gold metal leaf shines through the arch depicted behind the girls, and also decorates the girls' elegant dresses and the butterfly's wings.
The composition is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box rests on four legs; it is hinged from the left of the composition. The work is signed and titled by the artist in white oils under the composition.
