Description:

This portrait of a Princess is a splendid specimen of Fedoskino realism. It is a masterful depiction of an oil on canvas painting composed in the later half of the 19th Century. This era was renown for it's classic renditions done in portrait and sculpture form.
The Princess sits quietly, radiating with elegance. The artist gives particular attention to her face, considering it very important to understand her mood and psychology. With the help of ultra-fine brush and paints the artist creates her serious and intelligent face with a look of harmony and piece of mind. Her elegant off-the-shoulder dress and sumptuous jewels are painted in exquisite detail. Her figure is painted against the black background. This helps to create the depth of the composition, and concentrate the viewer's attention on the main heroine.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition; the box rests on four legs. The work is dated (2005) and signed with the artist's initials (A.V.).
