This attractive Fedoskino box is a creation of the famous artist Yu. Mikhalyov. It features a view of old Moscow dominated by the gold domed cathedral.
Mother-of-pearl shines through the sky creating a bright source of light shining from within. Lustrous gold paint is used to highlight the sky, the domes of the cathedral and the cobblestone pavement. The lines in the buildings are rigid, accurate, and follow the correct proportions all the way through.
The scene is framed with a thick gold line bordered with a thin red line. The sides of the box are decorated with a multitude of gold dots. The box's bottom is flat; its whole surface is decorated with red, blue and gold tartan pattern framed with two gold parallel lines.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The exterior of the piece is painted with black lacquer while the interior is painted with dark red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino and the year of 2006.
