Description:

This vividly detailed piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by established Fedoskino artist Alexey Otryaskin. He is known as an artist capable of eclectic imagery. His splendid boxes are readily acquired by collectors from different countries.
Each external side of this work (except its bottom) features a scene from Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale "The Snow Queen". This tale tells about adventures of a little, but very brave girl Gerda. Her friend Kay has been kidnapped by the Snow Queen and she sets out in search of him. Her kind heart and true love to Kay win the evil spell of Snow Queen in the end.
The Danish-style cottage is painted on the box's front side and lid. Two imps fly over the cottage's roof and drop the magic mirror just before the window of the flat where Kay and Gerda live. The children water their roses growing on the windowsill when tiny pieces of the magic mirror penetrate into Kay's eyes and heart. Since this moment the boy's temper changes and he becomes wicked and cruel. The box's right side shows the Snow Queen kidnapping Kay, and carrying him to her ice kingdom, while its left side features the Little Robber ready to attack Gerda's golden carriage passing through the forest. On the rear side we can see Gerda who says goodbye to the reindeer, intending to cross the boundless expanses of the Lapland on foot on her way to the Snow Queen's icy palace.
The details are enhanced by gold and aluminum paints. The box's exterior bottom is covered with blue paint mixed with aluminum powder. Here the artist writes his name and the title of this stunning work. The box's interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs.
