Description:

The talented Fedoskino artist Igor Isaev is fond of painting architecture of old Russian provincial towns. He has already created a series of works drawn on this theme, and this box that features the old Russian town, Uglich, continues this series.
Founded in 1148, Uglich is one of the most beloved old towns in Russia. The view of the town situated on the banks of the Volga River is especially lovely with the Resurrection Cathedral and the Dmitry Blood's Church looming on the horizon. At the end of the 16th century, Marya Nagaya, the seventh wife of Ivan the Terrible, lived in honorary exile in the Uglich Kremlin. In the garden of the Uglich Kremlin her son, 7-year old Tsarevich Dmitry, was found dead with his throat cut, and on that place the Dmitry Blood's Church was built and stands today.
The composition is painted on the front side of the box's body, and extended on the box's lid. The artist masterfully painted the 19th century architecture, and the quiet cozy streets of Uglich. Gold paint highlights the foliage of trees and bushes as the action takes place in autumn. Aluminum paint shines through the roofs, through the clouds painted on the top of the lid, and also through trunks and crowns of some trees. Mother-of-pearl is set into the building painted in the foreground. The composition is framed with the golden band. Intricate gold ornamentation can be found of the opposite (rear) side of the box's body.
The box's exterior that is free from painting is covered with light grey paint; and this light grey area is studded with tiny dark grey veins. The box's interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid isn't hinged. Signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the year of 2006 and the title ("A Side Street in Uglich").
