Description:

We always proud to present the works of the prominent artist Nikolay Zotov. He ranks as one of the best contemporary masters in Fedoskino, whose creations are displayed in each catalogue on the Russian lacquer art. This artist has a peculiar style, and very often his boxes are originally shaped, that is why it is always easy to recognize his unique creations.
This interesting box has a rectangular shape with a hollow in the middle to reveal the open porch-like space (it unites two of the box's sides). Inside this hollow there is a scene that features the king, the queen and the princess painted against two big mirrors. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into this scene to create brilliance of the characters' rich attire, to reproduce a magic gleam of mirrors and to decorate the background landscape. Bright gold paint is used to detail the characters' attire and the frames of the mirrors. At the bottom of this scene there is a three-dimensional element glued to the box's body. It looks like a small mirror that reflects a big tree and a path running through the meadow to the forest. This small scene is painted over a piece of mother-of-pearl that helps to imitate gleam of the mirror's glass. The frame of this mirror is covered bright gold paint. At the bottom of the scene painted within this mirror, Zotov wrote his name, the village of Fedoskino and the year of 2006.
There are also two scenes painted on the opposite part of the box body. One of them shows the princess who stands in the magnificent chamber of her palace. Her rich attire is painted in bright oils, and abundantly detailed with gold paints; whereas the chamber's interior is painted rather vaguely in light blue oils. Another scene depicts a lad and a girl walking along a small path running through the meadow. The lad plays balalaika, and the girl sings. Multicolored curtains frame this scene creating a sensation that the sunny meadow, the girl and the lad are seen from behind of these curtains.
One more scene is painted on the box's lid. It shows two girls dancing on the meadow. The girls' clothes are adorned with gold paints; two pieces of mother-of-pearl are inlaid into this scene to fill it with a magic glow.
The box's exterior is covered with white oils and decorated with gold ornamentation. Its interior is covered with light grey oils. The box's exterior bottom imitates the white marble (tiny light grey veins are scattered against the white background). The lid is hinged. The box is constructed from paper-mache.
