Description:

This splendidly painted box is a creation of Sennitskiy from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a scene from Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale "The Snow Queen". This tale tells about adventures of a little, but very brave girl Gerda. Her friend Kay has been kidnapped by the Snow Queen and she sets out in search of him. Her kind heart and true love to Kay win the evil spell of Snow Queen in the end.
Here the artist has chosen to depict a recognizable moment of this thrilling tale when the Snow Queen kidnaps Kay, and carries him to her ice kingdom. The scene is framed with a lined painted in light brown oils.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. Signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, and the year of 2006.
