Description:

Alexey Puchkov, the son of the outstanding Fedoskino painter, Piotr Puchkov, is a creator of this magnificent box. Like his father Alexey specializes in painting architecture; in the lacquer miniature world he is known as one of the best contemporary painters of this complicated genre.
The box depicts the picturesque view of the St. Trinity Sergious Monastery located in the town of Sergiev Posad (Zagorsk in the Soviet times), one of the most interesting towns in Russia. The town was built in the 14th century as a settlement around the St. Trinity Sergious Monastery established by reverend Saint Sergious Radonezhsky. He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church and became one of the most honored Russian Saints. The St. Trinity Sergious Monastery was one of the largest monasteries founded in Russia in the 14th-15th centuries. In 1774 it was elevated to the status of Lavra (the Greek word "laura" means monastery), i.e. the monastery of the highest rank. The St. Trinity Sergious Monastery is the basis that supports Russian spirituality, statehood, and national character.
The architecture is expertly executed. Its lines and perspectives hold a dignified precision that is a result of the excellent execution. Apart from various shades of blue oils the artist has used here mother-of-pearl inlay, lustrous gold metal paint and silver metal powder to make the scene look more appealing to the eye.
The scene is framed with a simple gold pattern; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The red lacquered interior seems to be sprinkled with black paint on the corners. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the name of the artist, the title, the year of 2007, and the village of Fedoskino at the bottom of the scene in brown oils.
