Description:

This splendid box is the original author's work of the talented Yevgeniya Nechaeva from the village of Fedoskino. It features a recognizable scene from the Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan". The thirty-three knights with their uncle old Chernomor rise from the raging sea ready to defend day and night Gvidon's magic island.
The scene is mostly painted in delicate blue oils; the exception is the knights' shields and cloaks painted in orange and dark yellow tones. The armour of the knights is richly decorated with lustrous gold paint.
The box's exterior is decorated with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads and rhombs hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and rests on four legs. Signed with the title ("Chernomor"), the artist's name and the year of 2006.
