This beautiful Fedoskino box is a creation of T. Dmitrieva. It features the Snowmaiden or Snegurochka walking through the winter forest and feeding birds (the birds depicted here are the red-breasted bullfinches). Every winter she and her grandfather Ded Moroz (Russians call Santa "Ded Moroz") come from the faraway North Pole to wish Happy New Year to little children and their parents. The scene is painted in light blue and white oils suitable for reproduction of the snow covered winter forest. Mother-of-pearl shines through the Snowmaiden's fur jacket and through the big fir painted from the right of her. Aluminum powder highlights the Snowmaiden's skirt and hat; silver paint is used to draw ornaments on her jacket and hat, and also to create brilliance of her ear-rings. Gold metal leaf shines through the thin tree painted from the left of the Snowmaiden.
The scene is framed with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. The same scan patterns wrap around the bottom part of the box's body.
Silver-bluish blurry spots are scattered on the black lacquered exterior of the box imitating the coloring of grey marble. The box's interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2006, and the village of Fedoskino.
