Description:

This philosophical work is a creation of the outstanding Fedoskino artist Pavel Anokhin. By painting it, the artist blames people for their cruelty and indifference towards defenseless creatures: insects and animals. In this work he wants to say that a man kills humanity in himself every time when he kills or disables a fly or a mosquito.
In the lower part of the box Anokhin has written the following verse that explains the main idea of the depicted scene: ‘cruelty and heartlessness are much heavier than the most ponderous load':

‘I have torn a wing off the mosquito…
And tried to outweigh my ‘loot',
But heaviness of weight can hardly outbalance,
Heartlessness,
And Indifference…

The scene is painted in subdued grey and brown oils. Mother-of-pearl shines beautifully through the body of the mosquito, and also through the wing of the mosquito that is put on the scale. The weights and the scales are highlighted with brilliant silver paint.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the year of 2007).
