Description:

This wonderful view of medieval Moscow has been created by Yu. Golubyonkova. A group of strolling actors called in Russian “skomorokhi” walk along the street of ancient Moscow, and play their music loudly in the early morning. They call the citizens to leave their cozy houses to start celebrating the Pancake Week. The depicted scene helps the viewer to imagine how the ancient Moscow, and its center, the Red Square, looked like in the Middle Ages.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
