Description:

Vetrova from the village of Fedoskino created a series of works called “Seasons”, and this enchanting box continues this series. It shows the beautiful lady combing her hair that represents the allegory of winter.
The scene is painted in blue oils over silver paint to create the illusion of the snow swirling around the lady. Brilliant gold paint is used to detail the lady's costume, to paint her comb, and also to create an elegant pattern around the scene composed of two crossing bands. A piece of mother-of-pearl that has delicate greenish and pink undertones is set into the lady's costume. Charming.
The box is richly decorated. It's exterior imitates the coloring of a stone (white and light blue veins and blurry spots are scattered against the dark blue background). The box's sides are decorated with silver scan patterns. The box's interior is traditionally red, but the interior borders are outlined with gold.
. The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, and the year of 2007.
