This beautiful box is a creation of the talented artistic duet of the Lebedevs. It shows young and old peasants who have grouped around the story-teller in the forest. The story-teller points at the tower built on the rock that is painted in the background, and tells the stories about the people who lived in this tower.
The scene is nicely painted in bright oils. Gold metal leaf shines through the costumes of some characters.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the names of the artists, Fedoskino and the title (“The Story Teller”).
