Description:

The famous canvas-on-oil painting “The Wife of a Treasurer” created by Vasily Tropinin (1776-1857) in 1841 inspired Bebikov to create this splendid box. The original is exhibited in the Russian Museum in St.-Petersburg.
The portrait is framed with a thin gold line; two parallel gold lines can be found wrapping around the box's sides. Brown blurry spots are scattered on the sides to imitate the coloring of a stone.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title, and the year of 2006. Splendid specimen of Fedoskino portraiture!
