Description:

This interesting work has been painted by the famous Fedoskino painter Viktor Tretyakov. Here he depicts the travellers who traverse the snowcovered expances of Russian countryside in the carrriage pulled by tired steeds. Before the cars were invented, troikas (carriages drawn by three horses) were used as modes of long distance transportation and troika stations were built on all of the main roads between all the major cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, and so on.
The scene is painted in the realistic style using various shades of blue and white oils suitable for reproduction of a dull winter day. The edged of the lid are decorated with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
