Description:

This beautiful winter scene has been painted by Sergey Kirsanov. Sergey is an expert in painting landscapes. In his works he doesn't exaggerate the modest beauty of Russian countryside, and finds a special charm in ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, and dirty village roads. This demonstrates his sincere love to his native land.
Blue and white tones of oils suitable for reproduction of a winter scene dominate here. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the whole area of the sky to create a pinkish glow of the sunset.
The space on the lid that is free from painting is covered with very thin grey veins to imitate coloring of a stone. The same thin grey veins are also painted on the box's sides. The scene is framed with two parallel gold lines; two paralell gold lines can be also found wrapping around the box's sides. The edges of the lid are decorated with a thin gold line. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
