This oval small box has been painted by Larisa Novoseltseva. It shows the Snowmaiden strolling in the winter forest accompanied by the red-breasted birds (these birds are called "bullfinches", and may be met in the Russian forest only in winter).
The scene is painted in light grey oils suitable for reproduction of a winter scene. Gold paint is used to detail the Snowmaiden's costume, to paint the leaves on the trees and bushes, and to create a light source in the windows of the peasant huts drawn in the background.
The box's exterior is covered with light grey lacquer that tones with the palette of the depicted scene. The interior is traditionally red. The box's sides are decorated with two parallel lines painted in white oils.
The box is made out of paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2007.
