Description:

This impressive view of the St.-Basil's Cathedral has been created by Dmitry Tipyakov, the son of the well-known Fedoskino landscape-painter, Tatyana Tipyakova. From the left of the St.-Basil's Cathedral the artist has painted the Spasskaya Tower, and in the far background we can see a fragment of the Senate Building.
The scene is painted with photo quality accuracy. The detail of the architecture is worked out with the utmost precision and is painted to the correct proportions. The palette is based on a realistic blend of paints that gives an accurate portrayal of the architecture. Gold paint is used to paint the crosses, to detail the domes, and to strengthen some minor elements like the star at the top of the Spasskaya Tower.
The scene is outlined with gold; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2007, and the title (“Moscow. The St.Basil's Cathedral. Kremlin. 1978.”).
